At the invitation of the Faculty of Agricultural and Industrial Technology at Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) in Indonesia, Professor Xiang Leiwen, Director of the Fujian Province - Indonesia Marine Food Joint Research and Develop Centre, travelled to Indonesia for a nine-day academic exchange from 22 to 30 June 2026. During the visit, he visited partner institutions including the Faculty of Agricultural and Industrial Technology at Unpad, the Centre for Southeast Asian Food and Agricultural Technology at Bogor Agricultural University, and the IPMI International Business School, as well as food production and distribution companies.

At the Faculty of Agricultural and Industrial Technology, Unpad, a cordial and friendly discussion was held with the Dean, Dr. Gemilang Lara Utama Saripudin, S.Pt., M.I.L., and others. The visit focused on a tour of the Department of Food Technology and the university’s central laboratory, and two academic lectures were delivered on the topics ‘Study on the Interaction between β-Lactoglobulin in Milk and Acrylamide in Coffee’, and ‘Optimisation of Processing Technology and Formation Mechanism of Semi-Gelatinous Centre Dried Abalone’. This visit served to deepen mutual understanding with the Department of Food Technology at the Faculty of Agricultural and Industrial Technology. Consensus was reached on establishing a joint research platform in the field of food science and engineering, promoting in-depth integration between industry, academia and research, identifying future directions for collaborative research, and organising reciprocal visits by staff and students, thereby further consolidating the foundation for international scientific and technological cooperation.

At the Centre for Food and Agricultural Technology in Southeast Asia at Bogor Agricultural University, a symposium entitled ‘Inspiring Innovation with Integrity in Agriculture, Ocean and Biosciences for a Sustainable World’ was held to explore avenues for bilateral cooperation, followed by a visit to relevant specialist laboratories. At the IPMI International Business School, the delegation paid a visit to Mr. Aman, a visiting professor at our university, and held a symposium. Through this ‘going global’ initiative, FPNU has established sound cooperative relationships with institutions such as the Centre for Southeast Asian Food and Agricultural Technology at Bogor Agricultural University and the IPMI International Business School, thereby deepening mutual understanding and friendship, and promoting the further development and consolidation of cooperation at the Fujian Province - Indonesia Marine Food Joint Research and Develop Centre.

During this visit, Prof. Xiang Leiwen also visited companies specialising in dairy products, cold drinks, confectionery, spicy snacks, coffee and baked goods, where he gained a detailed understanding of the production of Indonesian specialities such as tempeh, tofu and other soya-based products, and discussed innovations in marketing models and product development. He gained a deeper understanding of the overall situation of the Indonesian food industry, its regulatory framework and halal certification, learnt about Indonesia’s experiences and practices in the practical aspects of talent development, and drew on their talent development model for reference. With a view to supporting the construction of the ‘Two Countries, Two Parks’ initiative between China and Indonesia, and drawing on the networks of overseas Chinese communities and industrial resources, he worked to establish a long-term mechanism for talent development in the food industry and staff training for enterprises.
